What exactly is a COVID-19 Antigen test and how does it work?

An antigen test can be used to determine whether the test person is infected with the virus or not at the time of the test. It is a reliable immunological method (chromatographic immunoassay) for the detection of a specific SARS-CoV-2 antigen (COVID-19).

The test material obtained from the nasopharynx is examined for protein fragments (proteins) of the virus. The nucleocapsid protein that can be detected by the test is found in the SARS-CoV-2 virus and is the causative agent of COVID-19.

I received my test kit. What's next and how does the test work?

As soon as your test kit has arrived, please make an appointment online for a video conference in which a healthcare professional will guide you through the test. You need a PC, laptop or smartphone with a working camera to perform the test.

The test itself is painless. The test stick is first inserted into the throat and then into a nostril for a swab. After approx. 15 minutes the result will be visible on the display in the test strip. The principle is just as simple as a pregnancy test. Please make the displayed result visible to the medical professional by holding it in the camera. The result is checked and photographed.

How does the COVID-19 PCR test work?

At Klarity we use the latest PCR techniques to look for all current strains of the virus. With the saliva sampling test, a sample of between 1.0ml and 1.5ml of saliva is collected in a cup and forwarded to the laboratory. The mouthwash sampling test sees the individual use a throat rinse solution, which is gargled before being deposited into a cup, from which a specimen is forwarded to the laboratory.

  • COVID-19 PCR Swab Test (PCR-RNA SARS-CoV-2)
  • Non-invasive saliva and mouthwash PCR sampling methods

Can I take the PCR test at home?

You can take a PCR test at home with the help of a medical practitioner via our online video conference service which you can use from your mobile device, laptop, desktop computer, etc. You will then need to send the sample via post using our pre-paid envelope that you would have received in the box to our laboratory.
